St.Austell brewery

I hitched a ride with a bunch of British Legion renegades for a brewery trip that was most enjoyable, even if my memory of the detail is somewhat blurred! We tried all of their beers, including the 5% HSD (High Speed Death according to some of my colleagues!), Tribute (of course), Dartmoor, Proper Job, Admiral’s Ale, Clouded Yellow and finally Korev, which was a pleasant lager. We were actually privelaged as the brewery tour had officially closed. The roof was coming off this weekend in order to install new equipment for a major expansion. It was a bit of a building site but we were the last to see the brewery as it was. No brewing will be possible for some weeks, so lets hope they’ve got enough in stock to keep everyone going! The pasties by the way are excellent – amongst the best I have ever tasted.

After all the beers in the brewery we then embarked on a pub crawl all the way back to Newton Abbot, which took in Lostwithiel, Tideford and Bovey Tracy and a couple of other places I can’t remember! I must say I became rather fed up with Tribute, which is not my favourite beer but which was effectively the only beer available at most of the stops. It wasn’t until we got back to Devon that I could indulge in something different. I got home that night but I’m not quite sure how…

(Pictures taken with my iPhone 4 so apologies for the poor quality).
