Disney+ arrives in the UK
The Covid lockdown is just underway – we are now on Day 5 – and Disney+ has arrived with great timing. I signed up early for an annual fee of £49: I’d worked out it would cost me more than that to buy all nine Star Wars movies on 4K blu-ray so it was a bargain. And the 4K discs aren’t even available yet – and probably won’t be for some time.
And I was not disappointed: watching Star Wars 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos on Apple TV was amazing. It reminded me of my excitement when I took home the three original movies in a boxed set of laser discs back in the early 90’s. At that time I was excited about seeing them in far better quality than VHS – and with Dolby 5.1 on an old Philips 32″ widescreen CRT! I still have that boxed set, but alas not the laser disc player.
I am really going to enjoy watching every Star Wars film all over again – this time from beginning to end. And I shall not be on my own – R2D2 robot is watching with me! He will make sounds, shake his head, move around – at the right moments during the movie – very clever….
