October 1990 | Palm Springs, Hollywood, Beverley Hills

USA Trip 1990
These pictures were taken over two days – the first being a drive from LA to Palm Springs and the second a guided tour of Hollywood, where photos were generally taken from a minibus.
I have always been a bit of an explorer (albeit a Mickey-mouse one!) and like to get off the beaten track at every opportunity, not knowing what I am going to find. This was the case on our drive to Palm Springs, when I turned off the freeway onto a dirt road that took us to the village in some of the pictures – I have no idea what this place is. We stopped off at Cabo’s bar for a drink and rest – I wonder if that is still there now?
I once worked for a disability organisation in north London and my partner still worked there, hence our interest in the wheelchair parking space and the unfortunate sign directing ‘handicapped’ people to the back entrance. This was quite common in those days and unfortunately still is now in some places.
Our tour of Hollywood took place on a very dull day with very poor visibility, hence the poor pictures of Rena with the Hollywood sign. I cannot remember whose houses are pictured – no doubt someone rich and famous. I was driving myself when I parked up in Beverley Hills to get my bearings; I could not resist getting a snap of a real Beverley Hills cop!
