In 1944 around 800 US servicemen lost their lives in Start Bay during a rehearsal for the D-Day landings. I was there in 1984 when a Sherman Tank was raised from the botton of the sea.

Chagford at night
Chagford is a great place to visit at any time. With excellent pubs, each with a character of its own, it would be rude not to enjoy a few fermented vegetable beverages. However, a car is required, which complicates things.
