When I sit down to write my Morning Thoughts I have no idea what will pop into my mind or the route my thoughts will take, sometimes making connections that surprise even me! My diary entries simply record what is on my mind and reference many years of personal knowledge, insight and experience ‘off the top of my head’ rather than any other source. I also like to keep them brief; they are not essays after all!

I write my Morning Thoughts (and many other items) on Substack and, if I find the time, I also copy and paste them onto this – my personal website. Please consider subscribing to my Substack page – colinjanderson.substack.com – it’s free! The sheer volume of lies, misinformation, hate and advertisements on Facebook has been getting me down, so the more family and friends who subscribe to my Substack page the sooner I can close down my Facebook page.

The British Establishment!
This morning I find myself thinking about connections, in this case between the British Establishment, an episode of Cadfael from 1994 and set in the 1130’s, and a lowly Establishment figure of today – Nigel Farage.

Going Nowhere?
I’ve been feeling a bit down of late, thinking that I will never arrive at the place I want to be and where my life can begin. I will snap out of it, and nature helps.

Reform What?
It would appear that the dull grey silence of the day has caused my mind to reflect on the nostalgia of May Day, which has effectively been consigned to the bin of history. Yet another victory for the Establishment.

Morning Thoughts!
This morning I never actually get around to writing my morning thoughts, just the time immediately prior to thoughts forming.

Family Shrub?
I have a blank day ahead so I thought I might get back to trimming and tidying my family tree, which I hope my great-niece will take over one day. It has become too expensive for me to continue with research so the tree has, sadly, stopped growing.

Changing Weather?
If yesterday was summer today is probably autumn. Yesterday’s 21 degrees is today’s 14 degrees. Yesterdays sun is today’s cloud. Yes, the weather changes, especially in this maritime temperate climate zone, but my westcountry nose tells me that something is not quite right.

Thoughtful Friends!
This morning my thoughts range from a sunny morning through a reminder on my iPhone of my wedding to the importance of thoughtful friends.
-
Leaky Pond!
This morning I find myself dwelling on the constraints of being a private tenant, which can limit your ability to make improvements around the home or, in this case, the garden.

April & AI!
The phrase April Showers does not apply this year. Blustery April would seem a more appropriate albeit clumsy phrase. In writing my diary I sometimes look things up in books, a pleasurable experience that helps define me as an individual. AI might take that away from me.

Washing Woollens!
It dawned on me this morning that since winter is well and truly over I should finally get around to washing woollens. One of the items to be washed is a cherished quality and stylish cardigan made with natural materials. No plastic. It is 25+ years old – can I find a replacement for it?

Inefficient Energy Efficiency?
The Serious Fraud Office is investigating potential fraud in relation to the Government’s Energy Company Obligation Scheme. And about time too.

Anaerobic Digestion!
My garden waste bin remains firmly planted on the pavement awaiting collection. It struck me that if I have a garden waste bin I should probably not have a food waste bin. But why?
