When I sit down to write my Morning Thoughts I have no idea what will pop into my mind or the route my thoughts will take, sometimes making connections that surprise even me! My diary entries simply record what is on my mind and reference many years of personal knowledge, insight and experience ‘off the top of my head’ rather than any other source. I also like to keep them brief; they are not essays after all!

I write my Morning Thoughts (and many other items) on Substack and, if I find the time, I also copy and paste them onto this – my personal website. Please consider subscribing to my Substack page – colinjanderson.substack.com – it’s free! The sheer volume of lies, misinformation, hate and advertisements on Facebook has been getting me down, so the more family and friends who subscribe to my Substack page the sooner I can close down my Facebook page.

Future Mundanity?
Diary entries often tend to record events such as parties, social gatherings, holidays, and major life events. The mundane rarely gets a look-in. Today’s mundane activities may well be of interest to future historians, should they come across my diaries.

Ignorance to Knowledge!
Morning Thoughts From A Devon Sitting Room No.91. Ignorance comes before knowledge. No individual can know everything, but people coming together, each with a slice of the all-knowledge pie, have greater understanding than one person in isolation.

Food Snob!
Morning Thoughts From A Devon Sitting Room: I am already setting out a table for luncheon guests. In so doing I could not help but think about quality food and the real cost of cheap food.

Energy & Living Alone
No.89, Thursday, 5th.March 2026 I feel calm today, perhaps in part reflecting the hazy calm on the other side of the window. And I am glad of it. A day off between two busy days is most welcome. I have no plans and can please myself what I do, and when I do it. Living…

Eco Photo!
Morning Thoughts From A Devon Sitting Room No.88: I want to do my bit to ensure the success of the new eco-shop in town. A challenging photo-shoot will keep me on my toes!

Bin Day Mystery!
Why do I write this diary? Today the mystery of bins: how do they appear on the pavement? How do they return to their natural homes? A weekly event we tend not to think about – too much.

Complex Geopolitics?
War is complex but potential outcomes can be known and quantified. On just one aspect of geopolitics we, perversely, have to hope that Russia will step in to make good the likely shortfall in oil supplies to Asian countries – in order to reduce the pain for us.

Ambient Vision?
I was having no thoughts this morning, until something odd and seemingly mundane occurred to me: I am sat facing the wrong way. The view I have is a monotonous tone, but my normal view is a glorious sweep of ambient vision. I need to return to my normal sitting position!

Window Repair?
My landlord will pay a visit to look at what can be done to a broken window. It is plastic and therefore problematic: can it be repaired or will it have to be replaced?

Carbon to Hydrogen Economy?
A conversation yesterday got me thinking about major missed opportunities, and in particular with regard to Britain’s energy systems – and making the transition from the carbon economy to the hydrogen economy as painless as possible.

Garden Everywhere!
A gardener is at work in my garden this morning, which made me think how I have been unable to live without a garden, no matter how small. Even my 10th. floor council flat had a garden – of sorts!

Beating the Bounds!
This morning’s waste collection made me think of local councils and, whatever the outcome of the ‘reorganisation’, they will no longer be so ‘local’. Is a geography lesson required here?
