What to do today?

Monday, 14th. September 2026

A blank-mind morning where I am not really thinking about anything at all. Yesterday I had thought I would visit town as there were two things I wanted to do – or three if you count picking up a loaf of bread and perhaps some veg from the market. I wanted to pop into Co-operative Funeralcare to see if there was a convenient time for me to accompany my mother to confirm the particulars of her funeral plan. The other thing was to visit the pub in the hope of seeing Straw, who is usually there on a Monday. Partly to thank him for the novel he gave me but also to discuss medieval celtic history, the time in which the novel is set.

However, it seems I shall be indoors all day. The day I imagined when today was tomorrow is highly unlikely to come about. In a sense I have already sealed its fate: the washing machine is on a darks wash that will take two hours to complete. Soon after 11am I will be dragging clothes – mostly underwear – out of the machine and onto a clothes horse to dry. It takes a long time to hang up every sock and every pair of underpants, but even so I could, should I wish to change my mind, make it to the 1130 bus.

Yesterday I had my mind set on one course of action and this morning it is set on another. And at the moment I really do not know what to do, although my inner self is reminding me that inertia is one of my more reliable states. Expenditure is undoubtedly another factor: visiting town will be costly. Sadly, my mind remains blank. At times like this I think I need a partner or some other external force to decide for me!
