USA Day 10: Las Vegas Strip: should I walk or drive the Mustang?

USA 2016 part 14: Sunday 20th November @ Las Vegas

Having settled into the Luxor overnight my main task today was to pick up my son and his friend from the airport. I was ending my US holiday in Las Vegas – they were starting theirs here. First things first: get a car. On previous visits to the US I had always hired from Alamo and, whichever city I was in, I always found them to be very good.

I usually liked to splash out on a better car than ‘standard’ and, if I could, I liked to have American cars. In the past it was Buick or Lincoln – Rena liked the luxury and space – but this time I wanted a Mustang. I was given the keys and could take my pick of a few Mustangs in the garage – I chose the dark bottle green and it was fabulous. I learned from previous visits that you did not want to drive a convertible in the heat and sun, especially in the desert. So hard-top it was.

By now I was feeling peckish so thought I would drive to get breakfast. The first place I came to that I knew was likely to be good was Burger King. It may seem a bit of a cliché but I wanted something quick, reliable and tasty, and this place turned out to be very good. The Mexican Americans that ran it were all very good and very friendly and the place was spotlessly clean. Giant cheeseburger for breakfast!

It was not long before I needed to get to the airport – and the flight from London was pretty much on-time. My son and his friend were very pleased to see the Mustang! I dropped them off at their hotel and I went off for a drive to re-familiarise myself with the roads, which have changed quite a bit since I was last here in 1995.

We met up again for dinner and a stroll around the Strip, which was very enjoyable in the warm autumn evening air. Walking up and down the strip is almost as good as cruising up and down in a Mustang!
