USA 2016 part 18: Wednesday 23rd November
Today would be quite a long drive followed by a great deal to see when we got to our destination. Before setting off a hearty breakfast would seem to be in order, and this Vegas eatery came highly recommended by friends who live in the city, who were able to join us for a feast – that none of us was able to finish! Highly recommended.

On the road…
We set off early, heading south-east out of Las Vegas towards the Black Mountains and the Mojave Desert beyond. Because of time limitations I elected to head for the western end of the Grand Canyon, which is not the most common spot for tourists. However, it is a feasible day-trip from Vegas leaving plenty of time to take in the views.

We were on route 93 for quite a while, stopping at the Chevron petrol station (or ‘gas’ station as Americans would say) before turning onto a dirt road which was slow-going for about 80km. After a while we came to a car park and from there it was a shuttle bus to the canyon. The bus, café and other services were provided by the Hualapai people, and a very pleasant trip it was too.
This was one of those trips that stick with you for a lifetime.
