No.111, Monday, 30th. March 2026
Back from my walk and enjoying a cappuccino. It is quite pleasant out there with a light to moderate breeze and one minute sunny the next overcast with very dark rainclouds. But the rain is for someone else; a delivery for east of us no doubt. Which is a good thing as I decided I could make do with a denim borg-lined overshirt rather than a coat or jacket. It is that time of year – and it was ideal.
I can rest and empty my brain for now, before getting on with some writing and housework. I also have an important decision to make: do I take the plunge and fork out for photography software? I have used Lightroom for nearly 20 years, and it is very good. I know it well and I know how to get the results I want – usually. But it is £8.99 a month.
I have learned a great deal about cataloguing and processing images in all that time, which is important when you have over 15,000 of them! Yes, I have 50 years-worth of photographs and the number one thing I have learned about photo apps is that there is a world of difference between images taken on a digital camera or smartphone and those taken on analog film and scanned. Some apps are better at one than the other, and few are good at both.
If I take the leap today my savings will be reduced but, perhaps at the end of 2026, I might be able to cancel my Lightroom subscription. I know that is tiny in the great scheme of things, but it’s quite big for me.
